I became a volunteer driver for a non profit agency. The mission
of this agency is to keep communication/bond with daughters of
mothers in prison. I used to take the daughters to the prison to
spend quality time with their Mothers. When the Mothers were
released from prison, they began bringing their daughters to our
Church. It seemed to me, each week when I went to pickup the
kids, there were always "new faces" in the group. I began with 5
kids, in a month or so it had grown to 20!!! A year into this
volunteer project, this became a ministry of our church. This
ministry provides weekly transportation to Church and a meal. We
take the kids on outings, provide clothing, shoes, groceries,
etc. We provide whatever we see is needed in the home, including
hugs and kisses. This ministry was appropriately named
H.U. G. S. which stand for: HEARTS UNDER GOD SERVICES.
My plan for the future, is to become a non profit agency, which
would enable us to reach more children. We also plan to establish
a mentor program which will provide help to the children with
their schoolwork. Through this program we would educate
professional Christian men and women to go into their community
as mentors and become productive adults.
